When I first found CrossFit, well over a decade ago, one of the things Coach Glassman stressed was training for the unknown and the unknowable.

Fast forward to 2016 and that takes on even a deeper meaning. The unknown and unknowable are happening frequently, like the recent terrorist attack in Orlando, Florida.

Could anyone have anticipated that? Probably not, and that is exactly the point.

At my gym we dial, in the mental toughness aspect of our training.

We aggressively attack each lift. We grab the bar or sandbag or keg hard, like we are choking an enemy. We finish strong and we do not quit until we have accomplished what we set out to do!

Everyone, from Grandmothers to soldiers, are taught to train fiercely, with specific intent.

We train like our lives depend on it, because it just might some day!

What if you were next to a shooter when he started to fire, could take him down without a weapon? Think about it. No one wants to be in that kind of a situation; but if it happens it doesn’t matter if you want to be in it or not.

This was an AMRAP we did today

We are adding CrossFit Stiking to our Warrior Strength-Cardio class. This is a natural fit for Adex club and mace training. Note: This NOT boxing!
Here are some of the basics

and some application of the basics

Ancient warriors had to be able to fight hand-to-hand all day long.

Just defeating one of the enemy was just the beginning, there would probably be many more.

We have designed our new class with those ancient concepts in mind.

Maces and clubs were used in close combat back then, and we will use them in our classes now.

We also will be using a variety of hard-core body weight exercises to build overall athleticism, speed, and endurance.

Keeping your heart rate up will not be a problem while you are swinging one of these ancient weapons and pushing your body to keep moving when fatigue sets in (and it will quickly).

Tuesdays and  Thursdays 6:30-7:00pm

We are really psyched to be adding exercise club and mace training to our schedule!

Exercise clubs and maces work your body very differently from barbells, dumbbells, etc.

These classes will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:30-7:00pm

We had a great Adex exercise club workshop this weekend and now have added clubs and maces to our training.
